SALT PUCK · UPDATED OCTOBER 11, 2026

Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Salt Puck handles information when you visit our website, submit an order, contact us, or use a connected device and account.

Mobile app

The Salt Puck mobile app uses camera access when you scan a puck QR code. Sign-in tokens are stored in your device’s secure storage. The app uses the same account, puck readings, settings and notification services as the website.

Information we collect

The order form does not collect credit-card numbers, expiration dates, or security codes. When you place an online order, your selected available payment provider, Stripe or Shopify, hosts checkout, collects your billing and payment details, and confirms shipping, applicable tax, and the total before payment. We share the order information needed by that provider, such as your email, shipping address, and order amount, and receive order details, payment status, transaction references, and refund information to manage your purchase; we do not receive your full card number or security code. Do not send payment-card information in website messages, email, or text. Home Wi-Fi passwords are entered on the puck’s local setup page, not the Salt Puck website; the puck stores the credentials needed to connect.

How we use information

We use information to respond to you, confirm and fulfill orders, arrange payment and shipping, operate accounts and devices, calculate estimates and trends, provide support, protect the service, and keep business records. Submitting an order lets us contact you about that order; it does not subscribe you to unrelated marketing or authorize automated promotional calls or texts.

Managed salt service

For service requests and enrolled tanks, we collect the service street address, access notes and windows, tank and salt specifications, device association, address-review decisions, plan and paid-through dates, cancellation requests, versioned consents and materials spending authorization. We use these records to review territory and capacity, manage each tank’s coverage, schedule authorized staff, monitor salt levels, perform visits and bill actual installed materials.

Service records include scheduled and actual visit status, installed salt product and quantity, cost and applicable tax, invoice and payment status, service notes and any necessary completion evidence. Authorized staff access the information needed for their assigned work and support. Receipt and service evidence are access-controlled; do not submit door or alarm codes or card credentials in general notes. We do not continuously track a customer’s phone location.

Stripe processes subscription and materials payments and authorized saved payment methods. We retain provider references and billing outcomes rather than full card numbers or security codes. Transactional emails communicate signup, scheduling, completion and billing; service texts require a separate available program and consent. We retain operational, consent and financial records as needed to provide service, resolve billing disputes and meet applicable recordkeeping requirements. Ending service does not automatically delete your device account or required transaction records. Contact us with access, correction or deletion requests.

Automated email and SMS alerts

Salt Puck offers optional automated salt-level and extended-offline alerts by email, SMS, or both. We use your verified account email, mobile number, first name, selected alert levels, device association, readings and last-report time to determine when and where to send enabled alerts. We also process requested verification codes and test texts.

We keep your alert preferences, consent and verification records, opt-out or suppression records, and message processing and delivery status to operate alerts, prevent duplicate or unwanted messages, troubleshoot delivery and honor your choices. Our email provider processes recipient and message information for delivery. Twilio and participating mobile carriers process phone numbers, message content and delivery information to provide SMS.

Email alerts and SMS alerts are enabled separately in Account settings. Text alerts require separate consent and verification of your mobile number. Buying a puck, creating an account or enrolling a device does not automatically opt you into text alerts. Changing your number requires verification again; changing alert levels on an already enabled, verified number does not.

Turn off either alert channel in Account settings. You can also reply STOP to opt out of texts and HELP for assistance. Disabling device alerts does not stop necessary account-security or order messages and does not cancel a separately purchased service plan. Messages already submitted may still arrive.

We do not sell or share mobile information, SMS opt-in data or consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Service providers process this information as needed to operate and deliver the program. We retain relevant consent and opt-out records as needed to honor suppression requests and meet applicable recordkeeping requirements. See our SMS Terms of Service.

Who receives information

Authorized staff can access customer and device information for operations and support. We use service providers for hosting, data storage, email, payment processing, and shipping as needed. Our website and device backend use Cloudflare. Payment providers and carriers receive information needed for their services. We may disclose information to comply with law, address fraud or security issues, protect legal rights, or complete a business transfer subject to appropriate protections.

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use personal data for targeted advertising or automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Cookies and browser storage

We use essential cookies for sign-in and session security. Account cookies expire or are removed when you sign out. A browser may also store interface preferences or simulated demo settings. You can clear browser data or block cookies, but account features may stop working. The current site does not use third-party advertising trackers.

Website measurement

We use first-party measurement to understand which advertising campaigns bring visits and paid orders. A random identifier in this browser tab expires after 30 minutes. We record supported campaign tags, a visit and order-button interaction per session, checkout starts, and confirmed purchase and refund totals. Order attribution is linked to our order reference so payment retries are not counted as new purchases. We do not store raw page addresses, query strings, referrers, or contact details in these analytics records, or send customer identity to Meta. Hosting providers still process request information to serve and protect the site.

Measurement records and order-attribution links become eligible for deletion after 90 days and are removed by bounded scheduled cleanup; outages or backlogs may delay physical deletion. Abuse-prevention identifiers use a secret-keyed daily hash, expire at the next UTC day, and are removed by the same scheduled cleanup. Commerce records follow our separate transaction retention needs. We exclude signed-in administrators and known bots and honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control for this measurement. Blocking browser storage also disables browser measurement. You can turn measurement off below; this does not affect ordering or account access.

AI training and your choice

New pucks are enrolled in AI training when connected to a customer account. Training uses puck readings, tank dimensions and optional water/softener details to improve salt forecasts across participating pucks. Turn AI training off anytime in that puck’s settings; readings, standard forecasts and alerts continue. Salt Puck administrators can also turn training on or off, including for unassigned pucks. Your current choice is visible in Puck settings.

We record whether a setting came from onboarding, an administrator or the customer, with its time and applicable notice. A default or administrator setting is not recorded as an affirmative customer consent. Training normally starts at enrollment. An administrator may also authorize use of available earlier puck readings to bootstrap forecasts; we record that authorization separately and keep historical calibration and data-quality limits. Ownership changes start a new data interval. Optional forecast details may be left blank.

Shared training uses daily measurement summaries, quality/calibration context, tank settings and a substitute installation identifier. It excludes names, email, phone, addresses, payment details, Wi-Fi names and support messages. Restricted account records can link the substitute identifier to a puck: this is pseudonymous data, not anonymous data. We do not sell this training data, use it for unrelated AI training, or send it to general-purpose AI services. Authorized Salt Puck operators and our hosting provider Cloudflare process it to run this feature.

Turning training off stops future inclusion and removes active training summaries and affected models. Standard forecasts remain available. Learning summaries are eligible for deletion after 90 days, models after 30 days, and setting-history records after one year; scheduled cleanup can be delayed by outages. Account/ownership lifecycle changes remove or reset linked training participation. Recovery copies are not used for training; restored training must remain paused until current participation choices are safely reconciled. Contact us to correct a setting or request access or deletion.

Learned estimates require enough data and model review; training participation does not guarantee improved forecasts. No extra water meter or location tracking is enabled.

Retention and security

We retain information for account and device operation, order fulfillment, support, fraud prevention, and applicable recordkeeping or legal needs. Different records have different lifetimes: short-term readings, longer-term usage history, account records, and transaction records are not necessarily deleted together. You can review account deletion in Account settings or at Delete account. Cancel salt service first; paid service continues through its paid-through date. Service and billing obligations must be resolved before deletion. Deleting your account removes login access and saved notification credentials and releases owned pucks. Required service, consent, audit and transaction records may remain under a separate, non-login record identifier. Contact us with questions about retained records. We may retain records needed to complete a transaction, comply with law, resolve disputes, or secure the service. Access controls, encrypted connections, and protected authentication credentials help safeguard information; no system can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and requests

You can manage supported account and device settings online. To request access, correction, deletion, a portable copy, or help with privacy rights, use Contact us or call 612-234-1182. You may also ask us to review a denied request or explain the reason for a denial. We may verify your identity before acting and will respond as required by applicable law. Rights and exceptions depend on where you live and which laws apply; you will not be penalized for exercising applicable privacy rights. An authorized representative may contact us with proof of authority.

Children and location

The service and ordering process are intended for adults, not children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and address it. Our services and providers may process information in the United States and other locations where they operate.

Updates

We may update this policy as the service changes. The date above identifies this version. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent when required by law. The selected checkout identifies Stripe or Shopify as the payment provider before you enter payment details. You can review Stripe’s Privacy Policy and Shopify’s Consumer Privacy Policy for their handling of information.
